A brief description of the institution’s program(s) to encourage student research in sustainability:
Although we are not a research institution, our new LU-R1 program partners with large labs to help our promising undergraduates collaborate on summer research. The Sustainable China program will fund student research projects focused on sustainability in China. The provost also funds undergraduates to carry out research projects with faculty over the summer and some of these projects relate to sustainability, e.g. in the biology department a number of students were employed to carry out research on invasive species in the Fox River and Lake Michigan.

The Sustainable China program is funded by the Henry Luce Foundation Initiative on Asian Studies and the Environment. This is an interdisciplinary program through which faculty can form collaborations with Chinese partners and carry out research projects that relate to sustainability issues in China.
