A brief description of the institution’s methodology for evaluating employee satisfaction and engagement:
Langara Employee Engagement Survey
The Employee Engagement Survey survey was provided to all employees in 2016. The survey was designed to gain feedback on employee engagement at Langara, including intellectual and emotion connection to:
- your job
- work environment
- management, and
- colleagues.
The survey goes into detail beyond employee satisfaction (which only measures level of contentment) to gain input on employee engagement, which includes input regarding motivations, involvement, and overall commitment to the organization. The survey had a response rate of 58%, or 493 employees total.
In alignment with Langara's 2016-2020 Strategic Plan, there is a specific focus on enhancing employee engagement across the College and providing a working environment that supports cooperation and respect. Questions asked included those related to work environment, teamwork, work/life balance, employee engagement and professional growth.

Data source(s) and notes about the submission:
- The most recent Langara Employee Engagement Survey was completed in 2016. The next survey was scheduled to be completed in 2020, but was delayed to 2022 due to COVID-19. For this reason, we have used the 2016 survey results for the purposes of this credit submission.
- In early 2021, a newly created and custom "Employee Return to Campus" Survey was distributed in place of the regular Langara Employee Engagement Survey. The purpose of this survey was to gain input and perspectives on support needs regarding a return to in-person teaching at Langara College in Fall 2021. Because of the specific nature of the topic covered by this survey, we have not referenced it as the most recent survey conducted. However, we felt it important to highlight this survey in this submission, as it replaced the most recent regular Employee Engagement Survey and also provided the College with an opportunity to engage with employees (and students) regarding this important issue in order to ensure adequate steps will be taken for a safe and comfortable return to in-class learning.
