A brief description of the institution’s program to support employee volunteering:
Langara College encourages employees to volunteer in part of the Annual United Way* Campaign, and do so during work hours, to raise funds for those in need and our students. Participation includes committee and planning work done by employees (during work hours) as well as resulting events attended and supported by employees (during work hours).
A variety of events are held in support of the fundraising initiative, and funded projects include after-school programs for children, healthy meals and snacks for children and their caregivers, counselling sessions for children, programs that target immigrant/Aboriginal families and/or children and a portion of funds raised also go towards scholarships for students. Langara College also assists by providing funding to allow Langara students to assist as campaign associates working with United Way of Lower Mainland to raise funds.
*United Way is a non-profit charitable organization that assists local communities. The charity helps move people out of poverty, give kids the support needed to reach their full potential and connects community members to local support to create healthy communities.
