A brief description of the methodology used to complete the course inventory :
The methodology for completing the course inventory followed three phases, outlined below:
1) A spreadsheet list of total courses offered in the 2019 academic year was provided by the registrars office. The rationale for using the 2019 year as the basis for this credit was due to the shifting nature of course offerings in 2020 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the fact that 2019 represented the most recent course year reflective of a more typical selection of course offerings. Courses offered in the Theatre Arts department were excluded from this total course list due to the fact that these courses are strictly practice-oriented (see the Notes below for more information regarding this exclusion, including how it relates to our department count).
2) To develop an inventory of sustainability focused and sustainability inclusive courses, a team made up of faculty and staff worked together to create a 'long list' of any course with partial relevance to sustainability. A wide array of courses were chosen from their course titles and descriptions. Once this preliminary list was created, another thorough read through the course descriptions and a comparison with the UN's Sustainability Development Goals were completed to identify sustainability-focused and sustainability-inclusive courses.
3) The sustainability course list was then cross-referenced with courses taught in 2019 to create the final list and counts that we have reported on.

How were courses with multiple offerings or sections counted for the figures reported above?:
Each course was counted as a single course regardless of the number of offerings or sections

Data source(s) and notes about the submission:
The attached spreadsheet is an inventory of all sustainability courses (focused or inclusive) offered at Langara. The numbers reported above (8 focused, 62 inclusive) are the sustainability courses that were offered in academic year 2019.
Exclusions
While there are 45 departments at Langara (as shown in PRE-5), we have excluded four (4) department for the purposes of reporting for this credit:
1) Department of Film Arts
2) Department of Fine Arts
3) Theatre Arts at Studio 58
4) Department of Professional Photography
As such, we have shown 41 departments for purposes of this credit.
The rationale for these exclusions is that these arts-focused departments only include courses that are strictly practice-oriented. We have also excluded any courses in these departments from our total course count.
