Does the institution host a peer-to-peer textbook exchange program, textbook lending library, or alternate textbook project?:
Yes
A brief description of the textbook exchange program, textbook lending library, or alternate textbook project:
Lane Community College's Library provides "course reserves" services for instructors to utilize. These are textbooks and other course materials available for limited check out. I should note that access to these materials has been complicated by the COVID-19 pandemic (they are physical books). Additionally, the Library is supporting instructors who are interested in using Library eBooks in their classes.
Does the institution provide incentives for academic staff that explicitly encourage the authorship, peer review, and/or adoption of open access textbooks?:
Yes
A brief description of the incentives to encourage the authorship, peer review, and/or adoption of open access textbooks:
For several years now, the LCC has offered funding to instructors to adopt OER (open education resources) and other free materials. Instructors can apply for an award that's equivalent to 70 hours of curriculum development funding to redesign their class to use free materials. We also ask that they share materials that they develop with an open license, so that other instructors (at our institution or elsewhere) can use their work in the future. Oregon has robust OER-related programming and funding available (through Open Oregon Educational Resources), and I help connect LCC instructors to those opportunities as well. Recently, LCC instructors have authored full open textbooks in collaboration with Open Oregon.
