A brief description of how sustainability is included in new employee orientation:
The College implemented a mandatory online Orientation Training in 2022. Sustainability principles were added to this training in the following areas:
1. Surplus Property: LCC has a surplus property program with the goal of saving financial resources and diverting materials from the landfill.
2. Recycling: LCC has recycling stations and recycling bins throughout the campus, inside and outside the buildings. We follow the recycling guidelines established by Lane County Waste Management Division.
3. LCC's Sustainability Committee: We have an active Sustainability Committee on campus that meets regularly to plan and implement sustainability-related actions at the college.
4. Bee Campus USA certified: As part of this commitment, the College is continuously addressing pest problems in a less toxic manner, heightening awareness of seasonal changes, improving food production in our edible beds around campus, improve survival rates of vital animal species that surround campus, and educate visitors, staff and students about the importance of pollinators in our community
5. Learning Garden: LCC has a thriving one acre Learning Garden in the Southwest corner of campus. This space is open to everyone and staff visitors are always welcome regardless of your gardening expertise level.
6. Green Revolving Fund: The college has a Green Revolving Fund for resource conservation projects.
6. Bike Lane: The college has a free bike loan program open to all credit students for an entire term.
7. Green Office Program: LCC offers a Green Office Certification program for departments that want to improve the sustainability of their operations.
