Does the institution have an ongoing program that offers incentives for academic staff in multiple disciplines or departments to develop new sustainability courses and/or incorporate sustainability into existing courses? :
Yes
A brief description of the incentive program(s):
LCC recently created a program called Looking Forward: Empowering Students and Staff Through Climate Solutions Studies. The program uses a train-the-trainer model to facilitate the creation of sustainability-focused modules that can be used by any faculty member in their classes. Campus members from multiple employee groups will also work to build curricular pathways (default academic plans) where coursework includes climate justice and sustainability solutions.
A brief description of the incentives that academic staff who participate in the program(s) receive:
Faculty stipends of $150 for taking the 4 part training and an additional stipend of $450 for implementing the climate solutions concepts into their courses, incorporated in their syllabus, and publishing these modules for others to utilize. The number of faculty to be trained each academic year is expected to be 30 with about ⅔ of these faculty implementing the concepts from the training and following through on publishing their work.
