Does the institution provide secure bicycle storage (not including office space), shower facilities, and lockers for bicycle commuters?:
Yes
None
A brief description of the facilities for bicycle commuters:
The Bike Shack is a building which provides bicycle storage for students and faculty at Lakehead University. The storage area of the facility comprises 1766 square feet of space, capable of storing up to 172 student bicycles. The building was partially funded by the Lakehead Student Union, but was also supported by community partners. See http://communications.lakeheadu.ca/news/?display=news&nid=388 for more information.
It should be noted that there are no direct shower facilities for cyclists; however, all students and faculty have access to the on campus gym (Sanders Fieldhouse) which has gender specific shower facilities.

A brief description of the mass transit program(s), including availability, participation levels, and specifics about discounts or subsidies offered (including pre-tax options):
The Lakehead University Student Union (LUSU) coordinates as part of their tuition fees a universal bus pass (UPass). Each full time undergraduate student pays $82 (2013-2014) for a pass for an entire year. This is part of tuition which can not be opted out of unless a students residence falls outside of the Thunder Bay's Public Transit service area. $82 per year is compared to $74 per month for Adults with Thunder Bay Public Transit. This constitutes a $814 a year savings for students.
According to the survey conducted for the student commute modal split portion of this report (OP 19) 19% of students utilize public transit to travel to campus; however, students who live on and near campus utilize public transit for other purposes besides traveling to and from campus.
