Lakehead University's Purchasing Policy makes no mention of "institution-wide stated intent to support disadvantaged businesses, social enterprises, and/or local community-based businesses."

Geoffrey Matte (Manager, Procurement & Contract Services) noted that some of Lakehead's purchases do come from "disadvantaged businesses, social enterprises and/or local community-based businesses" he noted that these purchases are not tracked. Moreover he noted that while he personally prefers to purchase from these types of organizations, Lakehead looks for the best value using cost-benefit analysis and Life Cycle Cost Analysis in their purchases.
