Lakehead University's Thunder Bay Campus currently has no buildings which have been completed within the past 5 years.
Lakehead University's Orillia Campus has three building that were built within the past 5 years. These are in the certification process targeting various LEED standards endorsed by the Canadian Green Council of Canada. These buildings are listed below.
Cafeteria/Bookstore Gross Area: 1571 m2; targeting LEED Gold
Academic Building Gross Area: 8569 m2; targeting LEED Platinum
Residence & Conference Centre Gross Area: 8519 m2; targeting LEED Platinum
These buildings are designed with all of the major LEED design features including site development sustainability, water efficiency, energy efficiency, construction sustainability and indoor environmental quality.
Furthermore Lakehead has committed to building the entire Orillia campus to LEED Platinum standards. Additionally any future buildings or major renovations to be built in Thunder Bay will adhere to LEED standards. A brief description of how the institution ensures compliance with green building design and construction guidelines and policies:
In contracts with the construction companies responsible for building the Orillia campus, specific requirements were included which created a contractual responsibility on behalf of the contractors to build the campus to LEED standards and follow LEED's recognized building practices. Today, Lakehead staff is responsible for ensuring that the policies and procedures included in Lakehead's LEED application are being followed.
