LaFarm & the Sustainable Food Loop

A brief description of the institution’s featured program, initiative, or accomplishment:
LaFarm is a sustainability initiative at the College and the cornerstone of the Lafayette College Sustainable Food Loop.

LaFarm's mission is to integrate curriculum and practice in sustainable food and agriculture for the campus community. We grow produce for the dining halls, recycle nutrients from composted food back to the soil, and serve as a home for collaborative student-faculty education and research.

Experiential Learning and Immersive Experiences

A brief description of the second program/initiative/accomplishment:
Lafayette’s campus operates as a living laboratory, providing students the opportunity to conduct research and explore and test new models of sustainable systems. Through class projects and collaborative work with faculty members, students make significant contributions to advancing sustainability at the College. These hands-on learning experiences prepare our students to think critically and become engaged citizens ready to confront the environmental challenges of the future.

Third Point of Distinction

Name of a third highlighted program/initiative/accomplishment:
Circularity: Green Move Out and In, Community Sale, and Thrift Store

A brief description of the third program/initiative/accomplishment:
Green Green Move Out is a campus-wide sustainability and community service effort where students recycle their unused or gently used household items by donating them to local organizations and our community sale.

In 2023, Lafayette students donated over 20,000 pounds of gently used clothing, books, and dorm goods at the end of the Spring semester. Over 100 students, faculty and staff volunteered to collect and sort donations. Then, the donations were shared with local non-profit organizations, through a sale to the community, and incorporated into an on-campus thrift store.
