A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation:
Starting in the 2014-2015 year,Lafayette offered an extended orientation meeting talking about different issues including environmental issues. As part of the environmental lecture there will be a series of activities to sign up for if the first year students wanted to including cleaning up along Bushkill and working at Lafayette's community garden, LaFarm. Starting in 2015-2016, first year students will participate in several activities as part of the ongoing orientation activities. The program will include LaFarm to Table--built in programing taking the dining services experience to the farm to help students understand the Food Loop that they are part of. LaFill will be a waste collection activity that will educate first year students (who live together in dorms) about their waste creation relative to other dorms. These activities are supported by the first year experience staff and student mentors. Starting in 2016, the orientation brochure will include a page on Lafayette sustainability information and education. In future years there will be a pre-orientation wilderness trip open to new students focused on sustainability.
