A brief description of the enterprise:
Kyoto Group for Reduction of Agrochemical Pesticides (KGRAP)
http://dicc.kais.kyoto-u.ac.jp/KGRAP/en/en.html
To examine whether the economical yield is achieved in a pesticide-reduced system, KGRAP has been conducting several series of research since 1973 in a pesticide reduced orchard in Wakayama prefecture, Japan.
KGRAP’s activities include the following three:
1. Weekly meeting to study about and discuss topics related to agriculture and environmental problems
2. Census of pest damage to citrus trees in their pesticide-reduced orchard twice a year and analyses of the data
3. Selling Satsuma mandarins harvested in their orchard
Deco Vege Cafe
https://www.facebook.com/decovegecafe
"Deco" means bumpy in Japanese. Irregular vegetables which are crooked or too small but edible rarely appear in the market. In order to grade the values of irregular vegetables, the students open café on a monthly basis to serve dishes using such vegetables. They purchase vegetables from local farmers in Kyoto and Shiga, an adjacent prefecture. They also help the farmers and join regional festivals and events to sell irregular vegetables.
