There are numerous student clubs and organizations and initiatives at Kyoto University focused on sustainability. Most of them are open to students of all disciplines.

Recycle Market Committee
The committee helps senior students to give their unwanted household items that are in good condition to freshman students who can use them as seniors graduate.

This student group advocates vegetarian menu on campus including following activities;
1. Appealing to dining service (why dining hall needs to provide vegetarian meals on campus, world trend, explanation of demand and suggestions for events)
2. Conducting students’ awareness survey at Kyoto University
3. Connecting dining service and outside organization (vegetarian related NPOs or restaurants)
4. Awareness campaign to vegetarian food
5. Suggesting wholesalers of vegetarian food (e.g. veggie meat)
6. Developing vegetarian menu with vegetarian associations and dining service
7. signature-collecting campaign in a bit to introducing vegetarian dishes onto the regular menu

VEGE WEEK by Vege Project
Catering managers endorsed suggestions by students for introducing vegetarian main dishes onto the menu on a trial basis at university canteen and piloted a number of vegetarian/vegan dishes at the canteen for a week. Receiving many positive responses from the trial, the dining service considers putting vegetarian dishes onto the regular menu.
