A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation:
For graduate students, a member of Office for a Sustainable Campus gives a lecture on energy saving and sustainability by visiting new student orientations held by each department at the beginning of the academic year.
For undergraduate students, Kyoto University distributes "Sustainable Handbook" to all the newly enrolled students at the time of entrance into university so that they can understand easily what they can do for sustainability on and off campus. This book includes messages from President and Kyoto City mayor, environmental load profile at Kyoto University, information about how to dispose wastes in the city, tip to select sustainability focused courses and list of student organizations to address environmental issues.
