Does the institution have a bicycle-sharing program or participate in a local bicycle-sharing program?:
Yes

A brief description of the bicycle sharing program:

KPU is in the final stages of a process to provide e-bike/e-scooter-share parking for local bike/scooter share companies at its Richmond Campus. By offering a parking corral for private micro-mobility share companies on its property, KPU is encouraging (e-)bike/e-scooter sharing as an alternative mode to get to and from campus. This parking is located near transit, which also helps to encourage micro-mobility "park and ride". KPU plans to establish more micro-mobility share parking as these companies and their services emerge in the other two municipalities where KPU's campuses reside.

Does the institution participate in a car sharing program?:
Yes

A brief description of the car sharing program:

KPU does not have its own commercial car sharing program, but encourages car sharing through a number of methods including preferential parking for carpooling (minimum 2 people in vehicle), such as at KPU Surrey's Campus in Parking Lot 7. There are 14 spaces for carpooling at this lot. Additionally, the Kwantlen Student Association has organized one-time and ongoing discounts for both Poparide and Liftango, two carpool services that both students and employees can benefit from by signing up using their KPU emails.

Does the institution offer preferential parking or other incentives for fuel efficient vehicles?:
Yes

A brief description of the incentives for fuel efficient vehicles:

At Richmond, Surrey, and Cloverdale campuses, students, faculty, staff, and visitors can benefit from preferential parking if they are charging their electric or hybrid plugin vehicle. EV stalls at both campuses are located within 20-50 meters walking distance of a campus entrance. Surrey Campus specifically has 8 parking spaces allocated for EV/Hybrid vehicles that are in preferentially located parking spots.

Does the institution have one or more Level 2 or Level 3 electric vehicle recharging stations that are accessible to student and employee commuters?:
Yes

A brief description of the electric vehicle recharging stations:

KPU has 3 dual head shared output Level 2 FLO charging stations at the Richmond Campus parking lot (4 hour time limit), enabling up to 6 electric/plug-in hybrid vehicles to charge at the same time. KPU also has a Level 1 EV charging post with 4 outlets at its Surrey Campus parking lot and there are currently 5 electric vehicle charging posts each with 2 level 1 outlets, with four plugs each, at KPU's Cloverdale Campus. KPU previously hired RAM Consulting to undertake an EV Feasibility Study and Class 4 Estimate for Level 2 EV chargers at three of its campuses. This study will help KPU secure funding for EV charging stations to be installed on all campuses. KPU currently has a working group for the phase-in of EV chargers on all four land-based campuses. https://ramconsulting.com/work/kwantlen-polytechnic-university-ev-feasibility-study/

Does the institution have incentives or programs to encourage employees to live close to campus?:
No

Does the institution have other programs or initiatives to encourage more sustainable modes of transportation and/or reduce the impact of student and employee commuting?:
Yes

A brief description of other programs or initiatives to encourage more sustainable modes of transportation and/or reduce the impact of student and employee commuting:

KPU has an inter-campus shuttle bus which is available to all KPU students and employees between the four physical campuses, Surrey, Cloverdale/Tech, Langley, and Richmond. The shuttle is just as convenient as driving but much more comfortable and helps reduce KPU's climate impact from transportation by reducing the number of single-occupancy vehicle trips made by students and employees. The shuttle bus is free for all KPU students and staff with a valid KPU ID card. Additionally, the Kwantlen Student Association has installed bike lockers at 4 of the KPU-owned campuses (Tech, Surrey, Richmond, and Langley). There are 10 bicycle lockers on each of the 4 land based campuses. These lockers are free to rent with a damage deposit of $20.

KPU has also been undertaking a process to create a Transportation Demand Management Strategy. This Strategy is near completion and will be published in late spring-early summer 2024.
