Part 1. Student commute modal split

Has the institution gathered data about student commuting behavior?:
Yes

Total percentage of students that use more sustainable commuting options as their primary mode of transportation:
69

A brief description of the method(s) used to gather data about student commuting:

Student commuting data was gathered as a part of KPU's recently launched Annual Sustainability Survey. It was disseminated in February 2024 and sent to a representative sample of students. The main question that determined the commute modal split in the travel section of the Annual Sustainability Survey for students was "Over the last two weeks, how did you get to the X campus? Please select the method that applied for your most common trip. If your most common trip included multiple methods of transportation, please select the main method, i.e. the method that took the most time.". There was a drop-down menu of several options, including most of those listed below. The survey followed up with a question asking whether these methods would change in warmer, drier weather and if so, what would those modes be.

Part 2. Employee commute modal split

Has the institution gathered data about employee commuting behavior?:

Data source(s) and notes about the submission:

Employee data above is from the 2024 spring semester when the survey was administered. The survey was only sent to half of the student population, but was a representative sample, which is why the data is different from that of the PRE-5 data.

In total, 531 or 24% of employees responded to the survey and 1425 or 16% of students responded to the survey.

The survey was sent to full time, part time, temporay, and auxillary workers which is why there is a discrepency between the PRE5 FTE and the FTE listed above. There has also been a general increase of employees since 2022, which is what the PRE5 data is based on.
