Total campus area:
63 Hectares

Figures required to calculate the total area of managed grounds:
Area (double-counting is not allowed)
Area managed organically, without the use of inorganic fertilizers and chemical pesticides, fungicides and herbicides 51.24 Hectares
Area managed in accordance with an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program that uses selected chemicals only when needed 0 Hectares
Area managed using conventional, chemical-based landscape management practices 0 Hectares
Total area of managed grounds 51.24 Hectares

A brief description of any land excluded from the area of managed grounds:

-Only KPU campus buildings are managed using an IPM program (Facilities controlled), not its grounds. 11.76 Hectares is the gross building area of all campus buildings (including Civic Plaza's air parcel). 63 Hectares is the total area of managed grounds at KPU. This total includes the Horticulture campus, where grounds are managed by the Horticulture program but buildings, and therefore IPM, are managed by Facilities.

-The land that the Facilities department controls is all managed organically.

-The Horticulture program conducts the majority of its practices on the north Langley Campus, often called the Horticulture Campus. The Horticulture program does not use synthetic fertilizers for its land management. Although the KPU Farm at Garden City Lands is not included in this total amount, the Richmond Farm School applies regenerative and organic farm management practices to the land.

Percentage of grounds managed organically:
100

A brief description of the organic landscape management program:

KPU does not have an official organic landscape management program. All land that is managed under Facilities is managed organically.

A brief description of the IPM program:

Excerpt from KPU's Pest Control Services Program - Commitment to Environmental Health & Sustainability:

"...all our pest control services are customizable for the specific needs and requirements of your business. Our IPM approach guarantees results by employing various methods to successfully solve your pest problem. All while remaining eco-friendly too. This ensures a pest-controlled environment that significantly reduces, and in some cases, completely eliminates the need of harmful pesticides and chemicals. Our operating policies are specifically designed to support our efforts to be more environmentally and socially responsible. Our BC Branch originally started as a home grown business. As we continue to grow, we pride ourselves on maintaining those roots in our Community. Our acquisition into SVM Services allows us to have the financial backing of a larger Corporation, while still providing all of our clients and local supply vendors with same small local business feel they have come to know and trust over the years. Where possible we attempt to procure majority of our pesticide stock/goods/products through local businesses and/or North American markets. In addition to sourcing local environmentally-friendly products, we also follow the guidelines and regulations of The Ministry of Environment, as well as multiple Governing bodies and Environmental Acts in Canada. An example of this is our approach to help conservation efforts for protecting bird species. By reducing the use of rodenticides in our Environment it greatly reduces our impact on surrounding eco-systems and second hand exposure from rodenticides; especially when it comes to protected raptor bird species. Furthermore, we follow the guidelines outlined in the Canada's Migratory Bird Convention Act; in which we will not actively remove a protected bird species, rather we would perform exclusionary work once the migratory bird has left its nest to prevent the birds from returning in the future. Depending on the time of year we also can conduct live trapping of small urban wildlife to safely relocate them in accordance to BCSPCA regulations. For Bees or injured/orphaned Urban Wildlife, we always want to ensure the safety and well-being of both the animal & our clients, so we provide contact information to nonprofit organization like Wildlife Rescue Association of BC or a local Bee Keeper when needed."

Note: This IPM only covers campus buildings, not grounds.
