The President’s Council on Sustainability is responsible for:
* Considering new sustainability initiatives for the campus (including those pertaining to education and strategic planning) and making recommendations to the College President regarding institutional strategies, resources, and priorities
* Working closely with the Director of Campus Sustainability Initiatives to identify, support, promote and communicate new and ongoing sustainability initiatives.
* Considering ideas presented by members of the Knox community relating to campus sustainability initiatives
* Annually reviewing campus sustainability commitments, progress reports, and compacts to ensure that the campus is meeting its commitments and targets

A brief description of each sustainability office:

The Office of Sustainability was created in 2012 when Knox College hired its first Sustainability Coordinator. The Office is easily accessible to students, located in Seymour Student Union, and in addition to running a number of campus sustainability initiatives, the office provides institutional support and guidance on matters related to environmental, social, and economic sustainability.

The Office is currently managed by the Director of Sustainability Initiatives, a full-time, 12-month position. Student positions are available within the Office of Sustainability as follows:
30 hrs/week of sustainability office support staff during academic year
30 hrs/week of bicycle mechanics during academic year
10 hrs/week farm manager during academic year
40 hrs/week farm and community garden manager(s) during summer
10 hrs/week sustainability office support staff during summer

The President's Council on Sustainability meets weekly, addresses issues of significance relating to campus sustainability, and advises the President on their findings. In recent years, the committee has created a set of sustainability goals for the campus to seruve as support to the recent college-wide strategic plan.

The Director of Sustainability Initiatives coordinates between all campus departments to achieve institutional sustainability. In the past three years, this has included the first on-site renewable energy installation, expanding campus move-out waste-reduction efforts, and improving the recycling collection program.
