Yes

A brief description of the student/faculty projects and how they contribute to understanding campus sustainability challenges or advancing sustainability on campus in relation to Air & Climate:

A class project gauging the interest in organics collection at local restaurants turned into a student project, completed in spring 2015, that was a feasibility study about bringing a biogas machine to campus that included the carbon footprint benefits of turning organic waste to fuel not landfill.

Yes

A class project on renewable energy turned into an individual student group study class on the feasibility of bringing solar panels to campus. This led to the installation of on-site solar panels in the summer of 2017.

A class project in 2018 is looking at expanding our existing campus farm to include a perennial and herb garden for use by farm volunteers, the campus community, and the college dining hall.

A student project in 2018 is creating reusable dining kits to lend out to student organizations to use in lieu of disposable dishware for campus events. This will reduce the waste associated with serving food at events.

A course on water designed and installed the campus' first rain garden in 2017 to divert water from the sewers and increase native habitat on campus.

A student's post-baccalaureate project in fall of 2017 was to collect, synthesize data for the STARS report and also identified areas for improvement and new campus initiatives.

KnoxCorps fellows are placed in internship roles at public institutions, building connections between the campus and the community, and experiencing the political challenges of governmental and NGO work for social causes. These students have facilitated and introduced new programs involving food aid, health education, neighborhood improvement, and more. This is an ongoing program, since 2012, that recruits new fellows each year.
