Yes
A brief description of the sustainability-focused immersive program(s) offered by the institution:
King's greatly values immersive sustainability experiences and integrates such experiences into numerous courses. Many courses, particularly in the environmental studies program, feature local or overnight field trips. Two courses in particular showcase this value:
1. The environmental studies internship (ENVS 490) is required for all students graduating in the environmental studies BA and BSc programs. It is a 13 week immersive internship designed to provide real world sustainability experience in professional settings such as government, industry, and non-government agencies (paid or non-paid). Through the internship, students apply their environmental skills, receive valuable work experience, and gain insight into future career opportunities. Examples of internships include summer biologist at Beaverhills Bird Observatory,Parks Canada Learn to Camp program summer student, summer laboratory technologist for Imperial Oil, BC Parks Student Ranger, Education and Outreach Assistant for the Battle River Watershed Alliance, Junior Forest Ranger Leader, and University of Alberta Botanical Garden Environmental Educator. 2. The Honduras Water Project is a service-learning field course in development for three weeks each May. The course involves pre-trip classes, reading journals, a group project, and an overnight retreat. The Honduras Water Project provides an opportunity for students to apply their knowledge by bringing running water to impoverished people in Honduras and focuses on the interconnections between global poverty and environmental degradation. It is one of the courses used to complete the Micah Certificate. (https://www.kingsu.ca/research/micah-centre/opportunities/honduras-water-project)
