A brief description of the institution’s formal participatory or shared governance bodies:
The Undergraduate Student Government is the direct line of communication to university administration, funneling problems and issues in university life that directly affect our undergraduate student population. USG's main goal is to be the voice of the students and always put students first!

The Faculty Senate is the faculty governing body for Kent State University.
It is primarily concerned with matters of university educational policies, curriculum, academic and professional standards, and the establishment, discontinuance and major alteration of academic programs. The senate also possesses shared responsibilities and advisory responsibilities. In addition, the Faculty Senate may consider other matters pertaining to the welfare and mission of the university.

The Kent State University Staff Council works to guide the university on a journey to maintain its status as a best place to work; to advocate for the best interests of staff members; to nurture a climate and environment of respect, kindness and fairness; and to help shape a culture of collaboration, broadening and strengthening communication lines to help staff participate in decision and policy making processes within the University. Our efforts in the Staff Council will be purposefully geared towards providing greater visibility for staff; engendering a more understanding and caring work environment; and a sense of community among staff, students, faculty, and senior administrators

The Town-and-Gown Partnership area works to ensure that Kent State continues building strong connections and partnerships with the city of Kent and in Portage County.

The City of Kent and Kent State work to ensure meaningful relationships co-exist through a shared purpose to build a thriving collective community for our students, faculty, staff and City residents.
