A brief description of the institution’s program to support employee volunteering:
While KSU does not currently have an employee community service program adopted, there is a committee who is working on drafting and adoption of a policy. The committee is advocating for a set number of volunteer hours per year be given to employees (both full-time and part-time) to be used in place of vacation/personal time for service to the community. The hope is to have the policy passed by the Board of Trustees and ready for implementation in August 2020.

Currently, there are campus-supported Day of Service events that are geared towards faculty/staff/students coming together to have a positive impact on their communities. Examples would be annual Make a Difference Day (October), MLK Day of Service (January) and KSU Day of Service.

KSU also hosts the Campus Kitchen at Kent State, which engages approximately 75+ KSU faculty and staff and their families in volunteer activities annually. The CK also provides a food pantry for faculty, staff, and students who are food insecure.

We also have the Campus Kitchen at Kent State that engages approximately 50 KSU faculty and staff and their families in volunteer activities annually. The CK also provides a food pantry for faculty, staff, and students who are food insecure. This past year, HR and other offices such as ours across campus coordinated the Hurricane Relief Supply Drive and sent items to Florida after Hurricane Irma.
