Green Energy Ohio Tour https://www.kent.edu/sustainability/kent-green-energy-ohio-tour Saturday, Sept. 28, 2019 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. (Also took place September 2017)See green technologies in our community including renewable energy, green building and clean transportation!The Kent Green Energy Ohio Tour will take place Saturday, Sept. 28, 2019, at multiple locations at Kent State University and in the city of Kent, Ohio. This FREE self-guided open house is the 3rd Annual Kent Green Energy Ohio Tour and is part of the 17th Annual Green Energy Ohio Tour that highlights sites that are using innovative technologies that benefit the environment. While the Kent State University Field House solar array has been a part of the Greater Akron Solar Tour in the past, this is the third year for multiple tour sites in Portage County. The Kent Clean Transportation Cruise-In showcases energy efficient, hybrid and electric vehicles, and is part of the Kent Creativity Festival. The Kent Green Energy Ohio Tour is a joint event coordinated by the Kent State University Office of Sustainability, the city of Kent's Sustainability Commission and Green Energy Ohio.

2019 KENT CYCLE GUIDED BIKE TOUR
Kent Cycle will lead an estimated three mile guided bicycle tour on September 28, 2019 of various Kent Green Energy Ohio Tour Sites. Tour sites are part of the 3rd Kent Green Energy Ohio Tour, which is part of the statewide 17th Annual Green Energy Ohio Tour. This event is coordinated by Kent State University Office of Sustainability, City of Kent Sustainability Commission, and Green Energy Ohio.
The Kent Cycle Guided Bike Tour will start at Kent Cycle at 115 Lake Street, Kent on Saturday September 28 at noon with an estimated time of 1.5 hours. You must bring your own bicycle for the bike tour. Helmets and water bottles are encouraged. If you are in need of a bicycle, Kent State University offers bike sharing via Flashfleet Bike Sharing program with available: 180 pedal bikes, 68 e-bikes, 10 fat-tire bikes and two ADA-compliant handcycles

“The Water Walk” will be “off-road” (through lawns and some wooded paths) so will require appropriate footwear (but not rugged hiking). We will learn about the stormwater/wetland ponds along West Campus Center Drive and the innovative research in this area. We will then pass south of the Rec Center discuss the university prairie follow West Campus Center Drive to learn about the “climate change grove” that was recently planted and return to the plaza where we started. Custodial staff toured a local Materials Recovery Facility to see how recyclables are processed.The outing took the group to different areas within the plant that included the receiving area, the tipping floor and sorting machines. The group observed various sizes of sorting discs for cardboard, paper and other materials, the magnet and eddy current for aluminum and steel products, the optical plastic sorter, the glass pulverizing machine and the final baled product for manufacture use.The tour was coordinated by University Facilities Management’s Custodial Services and the Office of Sustainability.
