A brief description of the method(s) used to gather data about student commuting, including the timeframe for when the analysis was conducted and how a representative sample was reached, if applicable:
We took the total campus enrollment (4729 students) and subtracted: the 197 graduate/continuing education students; the 480 commuter parking permits sold; and further deducted another 100 to account for the available city parking spots adjacent to campus. This leaves 3952 students either living on campus or living within walking distance.
