A brief description of the program, including examples of peer-to-peer outreach activities (1st program):
This is a curriculum based program, with chapters on water, energy, recycling, society and economy, and food. Eco-Reps are responsible for one outreach event per month (in small groups or as individuals), focused on first year halls. They find and maintain a bulletin board or other display area throughout each semester. In Fall 2013 students did water tastings (tap vs. home filtered vs. bottled water), organic and local food tastings, recycled materials craft nights and a first year residence hall energy competition. Where possible, we are collaborating with resident assistants and resident directors.

A brief description of how the student educators are selected (1st program):
Students apply through the campus student employment system and hired as either work study or student hourly.
We try to hire students from each of the first year residence halls. Students are selected through use of a questionnaire, application and interview process. We ask the returning Eco-reps to review the applications and help determine who might be the best candidates for the jobs (with names removed from the applications).
None
A brief description of the formal training that the student educators receive (1st program):
We use Blackboard - the college's online student portal program. Here employees have access to an introduction and chapters on each topic (energy, waste, etc). There are suggested activities, suggested additional readings and program check lists. The curriculum was developed using templates from other Colleges and Universities and is reviewed and updated each year.
We meet twice a month in group meetings and sign up for office hours during which they plan events, do publicity and collaborate on projects.

A brief description of the financial or other support the institution provides to the program (1st program):
Program is staffed by the Campus Sustainability Officer with assistance from the Campus Recycling Coordinator. Funding comes from the Physical Plant administrative budget. We
have a work room near the Sustainability/Recycling offices (known as ROCKS) for students to use during office hours, that also houses project materials and other accoutrements for the program.
