A brief description of the cultural competence trainings and activities:
Students are encouraged to participate in the Alternative Spring Break programs. Those programs are typically service learning experiences - such as clean up from Hurricane Katrina, to working in inner-city homeless shelters.
There are also longer trips during the winter break, this year to Jamaica. These immersion experiences are often transformative for our students, based on the presentations I have seen from returning participants.
