A brief description of programs, policies, infrastructure investments, outreach efforts, and/or other factors that contributed to the diversion rate:
Furniture from residential life is diverted through the Institutional Recycling Network (IRN), who donates the materials to countries who have experienced natural and financial disasters.
Other unwanted yet still useful items are sold through our surplus program. Those materials are not captured in our figures here, but include office furniture and file cabinets, computer monitors, general furniture and random finds.
Data source(s) and notes about the submission:
The diversion total reflects only the materials we sent out for reuse through IRN.
In addition to those materials, we have an active surplus sales program, which does not have an accurate method of determining weights diverted, as well as a program of reusing materials back on campus.
