A brief description of the student educators program (1st program):
Our GEMs are junior and senior students who have a strong academic foundation, knowledge of campus resources, and leadership skills. GEMs are peers establishing student relationships while maintaining professionalism inside and outside of the classroom. GEMs are the first point of contact when engaging in the New Student Orientation and Freshmen Transition to Kean 1-credit course in which students are assessed through the SLO of Civic Engagement (including elements of sustainability - recycling, composting, and conservation on campus as well as wellness, diversity and inclusion, and community health) and all students need to volunteer in the community. Many GEMS work with freshmen students at volunteer river cleanups or other sustainability-related events to fulfill their community service requirements. One-on-one Peer Mentor meetings are required for each GEM and freshman student.
