KCC has a committee, an office, a Sustainability Center, and an officer. The officer is responsible for all sustainability initiatives for the college including campus, community, regional and national activities. The committee/team is a sounding board for all campus sustainability initiatives.

There are two committees the Campus Sustainability Advisory Committee/Team whoise purpose is to: guide campus-wide sustainability initiatives. Some projects include campus recycling; auditing energy consumption; curriculum and course development; Sustainability Week; and information for broadcast on WKCC 91.1 FM.
And the Council for Community Sustainability, whose purpose is: to advance sustainability into our community with a structured approach. The council acts as a think-tank and clearinghouse for ideas affecting community development and quality of life. The council also is a driving force for sustainability in the Kankakee area, the quad-counties, and the South Chicago Region.
The council focuses on initiatives such as recycling, local food, deconstruction, and other business and green initiatives. The council makes connections among citizens and groups and shares resources and knowledge in order to accelerate change and provide opportunities for obtaining additional resources, such as grants and funding.
