A brief description of how the institution engages in public policy advocacy for sustainability, including the issues, bills, and ordinances for or against which the institution has advocated:
State-level-sustainability centers at community colleges, created the Illinois Community College Sustainability network, now the Illinois Green Economy Network; work with the South Metropolitan Higher Education Consortium Sustainability Task Force to address topics of curriulum development, operations, procurement, and student engagement; worked on the state task force to create the 2010-2015 Governor's Illinois Campus Sustainability Compact.
Locally, created the Council for Community Sustainaibility working with sustainable agriculture, urban gardens and Farmers Markets; green jobs development with the Kankakee County Economic Alliance; designing green communities with the Mayor of Kankakee and the Kankakee County Planning Board; and working with local Chambers of Commerce, Housing, Transportation, and industry.
