A brief description of the employee educators program (1st program):
Sustainable Happiness is “Happiness that contributes to individual, community or global well-being and does not exploit other people, the environment, or future generations.”
-Dr. Catherine O’Brien
The "Sustainable Happiness Certificate" is being offered in person during the Winter 2023 semester, facilitated by a John Abbott employee in collaboration with Dawson College. The weekly sessions are developed with a goal of reconnecting people, community, and Nature.
Participants in the certificate are introduced to the concept of sustainable happiness and explore its implications, both personally and professionally. This is an experiential and applied training. Key topics include sustainability, connecting with Nature, positive psychology, well-being, happiness, and healthy/sustainable lifestyles. All participants must complete a project which benefits the well-being of themselves, others and/or the environment to obtain the certificate.

A brief description of the employee educators program’s target audience (1st program):
Facilitators of the certificate must have completed the Sustainable Happiness Facilitator training in order to participate. John Abbott's facilitator previously completed the 6-month training given by Dr. Catherine O'Brien (see EN09) in order to offer this peer-to-peer opportunity in-house. The Facilitator Training includes a 120 page training guide, and each participant completes readings, video presentations, and peer presentations weekly. Facilitators' activities include participating in a community of practice of fellow facilitators, guiding individual participant projects for the community and integrating the SH philosophy through workshops in their various departments to further raise awareness and skills about practicing SH both personally and professionally.
