In collaboration with Achieving the Dream, sustainability information will be included the Student Orientation and Registration (SOAR) Handbook and will cover recycling tips, college policies, and other sustainability efforts at the college.

Orientation leaders cover recycling initiatives during the presentation before students break for lunch, as well as on campus tours.

Students utilize recycling bins and water filling stations throughout the day.

The orientation handbook is printed on 30% recycled paper, but is also offered online. Jefferson also continues to place signage throughout each campus to promote sustainability initiatives. Signage for the 3⁄4 mile walking trail around the Shelby Campus is clearly labeled to promote healthy living on campus and in the community. Signage is also posted at the 2012 Earth Day Tree Planting location. On the Downtown Campus, two JEC Green Space signs designate where employees volunteer to landscape and maintain the entrance to the Jefferson Education Center’s parking garage.
