In 2010, Jefferson developed the first Commitment to Action Document within the Business Affairs Office, which outlines the groundwork for sustainability initiatives and planning for the college, positioning the college to be KCTCS sustainability leader. Jefferson's Sustainability Plan was developed in 2013 with input from Faculty, Maintenance and Operations, Grounds, Student Affairs, Library, Business Affairs, Adult Education, and Information Technology, along with the Sustainability Project Manager for KCTCS.

Jefferson's Sustainability Plan serves as a guide for implementing sustainable development at the college in the area of Education and Research, Operations, and Planning, Administration, and Engagement. The framework communicates sustainable development goals, progress, and achievements, and provides benchmarking opportunities with other KCTCS colleges.

Jefferson's Sustainability Plan includes measurable and numerical goals with corresponding dates by which the college aims to achieve its goals. In addition, the framework ensures that sustainability is implemented across KCTCS while providing the college with maximum flexibility to develop a unique sustainability plan and to implement our plan at a pace suitable to our college.
