The lowest paid employees at JMU are part-time wage employees who make $12.00 per hour with no benefits.

JMU has no written policy, however, JMU is committed to supporting our lowest paid employees. In 2024, we will evaluate further increases commensurate with any annual Commonwealth pay increase and will continue evaluating on a yearly basis with a goal to reach the prevailing MIT living wage standard. In January 2026, we are planning to increase the Base University Rate (BUR) for Full Time employees to $15.00/hr. to respond to the mandated minimum wage increases in Virginia. Once we meet the living wage, we’d like to maintain the living wage into the future. To successfully reach this goal, we’ll need evaluate the BUR twice each year and phase the increases over multiple years.
