A brief description of programs, policies, infrastructure investments, outreach efforts, and/or other factors that contributed to the diversion rate for construction and demolition waste:

JMU Policy 1703 requires all new building construction or new renovation to existing buildings to be designed under one of three green building standards. These are LEEDGreen Globes, and The Virginia Energy Conservation and Environmental Standards (VEES). This applies to buildings over 5,000 square feet in area and renovations when the cost to renovate exceeds 50 percent of the building's value. JMU to date has used both LEED and VEES.

Data source(s) and notes about the submission:

Three projects occurred during the reporting period, FY 22-23:

  • Old Convocation Center Renovation
  • East Campus Power Plant Landscape Storage Building
  • D-Hub Renovation

Because two renovations did not exceed 50% of the building cost, they were not constructed under a green building standard and no waste data was tracked. The East Campus Power Plant Landscape Storage Building is 4,900 square feet in area and was not required to be designed and built under a green building standard. Therefore, waste data was not tracked.
