Annual expenditures on certified green janitorial paper products:
A brief description of the time period on which the figures reported above are based :
JMU Housekeeping's purchases of cleaning and janitorial paper products from Fiscal Years 2021, 2022, and 2023 were analyzed following the same methodology as in JMU's last STARS report. The record of purchases was obtained through JMU's Facilities Management AiM system. Cleaning products included general purpose bathroom, glass, and carpet cleaners; degreasing agents; biologically-active cleaning products (enzymatic and microbial products); floor-care products (e.g., floor finish and floor finish strippers); hand soaps and hand sanitizers, disinfectants, and metal polish; and other specialty cleaning products. Janitorial paper products included toilet tissue, tissue paper, paper towels, hand towels, and napkins. Next, it was determined which purchases in each category were "green" products from AASHE's list of what was considered a green product. All products counted as "green" met one or more of the following criteria: ECOLOGO certified (UL Environment), Green Seal certified, U.S. EPA Safer Choice labeled. All of JMU Housekeeping's purchases of green cleaning and janitorial paper products were totaled in two categories, cleaning and janitorial products. Three year totals were divided by 3 to obtain average annual expenditures for this report. The information was submitted for STARS on January 18, 2024.
