We are proud participants of the Virginia Green campaign. Virginia Green is the Commonwealth of Virginia’s campaign to promote environmentally friendly practices in all aspects of Virginia’s tourism industry. The Virginia Green program is run through a partnership between the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality; the Virginia Tourism Corporation; the Virginia Restaurant, Lodging & Travel Association; and the Virginia Green Travel Alliance. JMU has had over 11 dining locations certified over the years. We must succeed in sustainability criteria such as waste minimization, energy efficiency, and water conservation. JMU Dining received the Green Dining Services of the Year Award in 2023. Most recently, Ehall resident dining hall received the 2024 Green Travel Leader Award. Information about our certifications can be found here: https://www.virginiagreen.net/

Two residential dining halls and a retail location are also certified through the Green Restaurant Association. Ehall has one star out of four and Bistro 1908 has two stars. In August of 2023, Dhall increased from two to three stars. Reports for these three restaurants can be found here: https://www.dinegreen.com/results by entering "Harrisonburg" as the city in the search bar.
