Does the institution host a food bank, pantry, or equivalent resource focused on alleviating food insecurity, hunger and poverty among students?:
A brief description of the food bank, pantry, or equivalent resource:
The Pantry is a joint effort on campus, with direct logistical support and oversight coming from the office of Off-Campus Life, and policy and procedural development coming from the Basic Needs Advisory Board, which has representation from across the University and Harrisonburg community. We are partnered with the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank to ensure a consistent supply of quality, nutritious food. Additional support comes from JMU Dining, Danone North America, and community businesses.
The Pantry offers a wide variety of shelf-stable goods, hygiene products, fresh produce, dairy and non-dairy goods, frozen foods, and some basic school supplies. Additionally, JMU Dining runs a swipe donation program which translates into vouchers students can request through The Pantry to access hot meals. With three locations across campus, The Pantry is open to all JMU students, no questions asked.
