Does the institution offer at least one immersive, sustainability-focused educational study program that is one week or more in length?:
A brief description of the sustainability-focused immersive program(s) offered by the institution:
International immersive experience opportunities related to sustainability occur regularly and vary each year. Multiple programs have an explicit focus on sustainability, and/or include modules dedicated to the topic. For example, immersive courses regularly offered in Tanzania and Costa Rica by faculty members from the College of Integrated Science and Engineering explicitly focus on human-environment interactions and conceptualizations of sustainability/appropriate technology. The immersive programs promote place-based learning to explore sustainability topics such as dimensions of rural life, impacts of major cities, varied land uses and pressures on the land, and use and potential of renewable resources, among other things.
Example of programs: East Africa Field School
Location: Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar, Kakamega, Laikipia, Kajiado, Longido, Arusha, Tanzania, Kenya.
