Harrisonburg Electric Commission, provider of electricity to JMU, purchases all its power from Dominion Virginia Power. The source for fuel mix is based on 2011 data available on Dominion Virginia Power's website at this link: https://www.dom.com/dominion-virginia-power/powering-virginia/data-centers-and-dominion-virginia-power.jsp
JMU's Steam Plant predominately uses natural gas as a fuel, depending upon weather, supply, and other factors. JMU also purchases steam produced at the city of Harrisonburg's Resource Recovery Facility (RRF). The city's RRF facility also uses natural gas for steam production, depending on the availability of waste to incinerate.
