Does the institution have a sustainability plan that meets the criteria for this credit?:
Yes

A brief description of how multiple stakeholder groups were involved in developing the plan:

The JMU Environmental Stewardship Action Plan (ESAP) was developed by the university service committees, known as the Institute for Stewardship of the Natural World, and the campus sustainability office. The committees, which consist of volunteers participating by presidential appointment, include faculty and staff from across all divisions of the university. More information about the committees can be found at jmu.edu/stewardship as well as under credit PAE-1.

A brief description of the plan’s measurable goals :

The plan includes objectives in 9 institutional areas including energy, waste, water, administration, education and scholarship, food, commuting, citizenship, and land use. Examples of specific objectives under materials are "Develop a plan to reduce landfill waste" and "Develop a plan to expand composting by dining services staff."

A brief description of how progress in meeting the plan’s goals is measured:

The Office of Environmental Stewardship and Sustainability and the Executive Council of the Institute for Stewardship of the Natural World meet monthly and regularly discuss university progress on the ESAP. Most of the plan's objectives are on schedule for completion by the plan's final year in 2015. Progress includes the drafting and adopting formal strategies to promote three goals that are defined by 9 institutional objectives. Details on progress are included in this STARS document.
