A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation:
Sustainability is presented to new students in the context of environmental stewardship practices. The JMU guide for new students, The One Book, includes a page on environmental stewardship. The page encourages students to participate in campus sustainability activities and programs. Multiple orientation events incorporate waste reduction initiative efforts and education about composting and recycling. Students receive targeted messaging to promote their participation in environmental stewardship efforts. For example, each student moving into the residence halls receives a reusable bag with information about how and what to recycle in their building and across campus. Each student with a meal plan receives a free reusable mug with information on how that can be used at a discount across campus.
