Does the institution offer at least one immersive, sustainability-focused educational study program that is one week or more in length?:
Yes
A brief description of the sustainability-focused immersive program(s) offered by the institution, including how each program addresses the social, economic, and environmental dimensions of sustainability:
Students visit Alajuela, Altamira, Monteverde, and the Osa Peninsula in Costa Rica staying in ecolodges and participating in sustainable tourism ventures (hiking, kayaking, organic coffee production, chocolate tour). These lodges and ventures are run entirely by Costa Ricans who in most cases have received empowerment training and support from the government and conservation oriented organizations (i.e., Conservation International, Proyecto Caminos de Osa) with two primary aims: (a) to improve the quality of life and economic viability of local residents and (b) to strengthen conservation of surrounding natural areas. Students talk with local entrepreneurs to learn about the sustainability practices they use in their business operations such as alternative energies, recycling, organic gardening, conservation of natural resources, and community partnerships.
