The number of student community service hours contributed during a one-year period:

Total number of students, which may exclude part-time, continuing education and/or non-credit students:

The total undergraduate, degree-seeking count (6,147) does not include part-time or continuing education or international extramural exchange students.

Don Austin from the Office of Student Engagement and Multicultural Affairs provided the reported number (48,000 hours) which he reported to the Corporation for National and Community Service for last academic year (2012-13). The number reported above reflects the community service hours for the programs that the Office of Student Engagement and Multicultural Affairs coordinates or helps to support with volunteer placements.

However, Don admits that this "heavily estimated" figure is a fraction of the estimated total number of community service hours actually performed, given the number of student organizations and athletic teams that conduct community service, as well as community service classes and community-based/service learning projects and internships.

Students volunteering in community service projects or who are involved in student organizations that undertake community service projects are requested to "log" their community service hours using the ICLINK program. However, the actual reporting has been sporadic, at best.
