Which of the following best describes the institution’s approach to rainwater management?:
A brief description of the institution’s green infrastructure and LID practices:
Currently, 59% of our campuses have at least one water treatment system, and in 2022, 19.6% of total water consumption was treated water. Initiatives include implementing water autonomy for the Off-grid E2 parking garage on the Monterrey Campus and constructing a PTAR at the Zambrano Hellion Hospital, treating up to 39,000 m3 per year for reuse. During the water crisis in Nuevo León, we enacted a plan saving 22,920 m3 of water, equivalent to the one-day consumption of 36,730 households. Projects like rainwater collection systems in Mexico City and Querétaro campuses, and a collaboration with the IFC for water conservation technology, are underway. Tree inventory and CO2 absorption calculations will be available on our website in the first half of 2023. Strategies like bio-ditches and Arroyo Vivo are aimed at sustainability, while circularity projects with TecFood focus on waste reduction in cafeterias, aligning with our goal of being a model institution for sustainable waste management.
