A brief description of the key components of the custom OHSMS:

The university funds an Environmental, Health, and Safety department comprised of forty health and safety professionals. The team anticipates, recognizes, and evaluates workplace health and safety hazards then develops custom safety management systems, tailored to the needs of the institution for the control of identified hazards. The university also funds an Occupational Medicine office staffed by four medical professionals capable of performing comprehensive medical surveillance of employees exposed to workplace health and safety hazards.

A brief description of the methodology used to track and calculate the number of recordable incidents of work-related injury or ill health :

Employee injury reports are submitted by department representatives using a web-based, 3rd party risk management software solution purchased by the university. The software has been integrated with authoritative data sources for demographic and building/room information to simplify the reporting process. In addition, the solution has been customized to gather desired information, track follow-up investigations, and aid in the reporting of injury data to regulatory agencies and institution leadership.
