A brief description of the methodology used to determine the total number of courses offered and to identify sustainability course offerings, including the definitions used and the process for reviewing and/or validating the course inventory :

To create our baseline directory, all courses offered by the university were assessed by LiveGreen student interns via descriptions available within the Iowa State Course Catalog, and designated as either a "focused" course (i.e. "sustainability course") or "related" course (i.e. "course that includes sustainability") per AASHE Standards and terms. Courses chosen were verified by academic departments via email correspondence for confirmation for inclusion.

Courses may be listed in the directory multiple times, due to cross-listings among academic departments and colleges. Multiple listings ensures full representation to students of sustainability classes available within their majors and degree programs.

The directory is updated annually via partnership with the Registrar's office and corrected to reflect new and discontinued course opportunities.

How were courses with multiple offerings or sections counted for the figures reported above?:
Each course was counted as a single course regardless of the number of offerings or sections
