In order to build a sustainable society and a healthy living environment, INRS provides financial support through its endowment fund for initiatives from its community members to improve its environmental and social footprint. An annual amount of $15,000 is set aside to finance projects originating from the INRS community, and teams must include at least one student. Projects of all sizes are accepted, whether small or large in scale, and the budget requested for a project can go up to $10,000.
Every year, a new thematic is chosen: for 2021-2022, it was waste reduction; 2022-2023: sustainable communities; 2023-2024: responsible research.

The project evaluation committee is a subcommittee of the Institutional Sustainable Development Committee, formed annually based on the availability of its members. Evaluation is based on specific criteria, as follows:
Project Quality [20 points]
The project clearly defines the problem, is based on research, has a solid implementation protocol and a realistic approach that will enable it to be carried out within the proposed timeframe.
Feasibility of Proposed Actions and Financial Structure [25 points]
The project proposes a realistic approach taking into account the context and available financial resources. The project must obtain the approval of the centre manager to confirm the feasibility of the project in relation to the centre's infrastructure.
Impact of the Proposed Solution [30 points]
Alignment with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) [10 points]
The project demonstrates a clear contribution to targets in more than one of the UN Agenda 2030 goals.
Support, Partnerships, and Commitments [15 points]
The project receives support or collaboration from various stakeholders who commit to contributing to the pilot, its extension or its sustainability through actions, financial or other means. Combination with other sources of funding (e.g., municipal, provincial or third-party calls for projects) is an asset.
