Data source(s) and notes about the submission:
The methodology for this credit involved conducting an affiliation-based search in the Scopus database. Our data is generally up to date in terms of affiliation because we validate the various INRS entities in the database. Once we obtained the result of INRS publications, we refined it to the year 2022, and then there will be a further refinement to consider only open-access documents.
By conducting an affiliation-based search in Scopus for the year 2022, we obtained 973 documents. Out of these, 376 documents are open access, which is approximately 39%. If we consider the strict definition of open access, including documents in the gold/diamond and gold-hybrid routes (author-paid open access), at INRS in 2022, there are 212 in the gold route and 54 in the gold-hybrid route.
However, it's important to note that this question pertains to peer-reviewed works. If we consider only articles, journals, letters, etc., we have a total of 711 documents in Scopus, and 359 of these documents are open access, accounting for about 50% of the total. Out of this number, 206 are in the gold route, and 50 are in the gold-hybrid route. By considering dissertations and theses as peer-reviewed works published each year, the percentage is closer to 60% of publications that would be available in open access.
The percentage is relatively higher when we take data from Web of Science (46%) for all publications. However, the number of documents identified is lower than that in Scopus: 683 instead of 973. That's why we chose to use Scopus data.
The percentage of open access publications aligns with the Leiden Ranking data for 2018-2021 and with the University of Quebec's report on open access in 2023.
